Aris Jones was the only male member of Group B, a group inhabited entirely by women. His name is likely an abbreviation of Aristotle, the great Greek mathematician and scientist. He escaped the Labyrinth with his companions and were placed in a gym by their saviors, where Aris was kidnapped by WICKED and placed in the room of the only female member of the other Group B, Teresa. Thomas discovered that Teresa was no longer there, but had been replaced by Aris. Thomas took him to the room where the other inhabitants slept. Newt believes Aris is a WICKED spy and interrogates him. After the interrogation, Aris introduces himself and reveals that he belonged to the other Group B, who stabbed his friend Raquel to death (similar to Chuck's death).

The next day, a resident named Winston informed Aris and the rest of the Group that there was a man in the common room who they called "the Rat" (A.D. Janson is his real name). The Rat told them about the Flare, he told them that he belonged to the organization called WCKD and that most of the world's governments have disintegrated and those that survived joined together and formed what is known as WCKD. He also revealed that Phase Two, The Desert Trials, would begin the next day at six in the morning crossing a Trans-Plane (technological portal that moves from one place to another), that is when, the Desert Trials will begin where they have to find their way outside and they will have to head north for 160 kilometers and reach a shelter within two weeks where Phase Two will conclude and they will be cured of the Flare; after giving the explanation, the Rat disappears.
