Adam is a very calm person who seems to only talk to those he trusts. At the beginning of the series, he behaves very restrained, but by the end he becomes quite trusting. This becomes apparent when Noah tells him that Raeliana wanted to get a dragon, as she accidentally sewed it onto a handkerchief she gave Adam after another knight (Ensley) told Adam that giving Raeliana a dragon would be a disaster.

The story of Adam Taylor: as a child, he participated in wars along with other soldiers and was the only one who returned alive and unharmed after the bloody battle in the valley of Hashlap. When a decree was issued prohibiting the recruitment of minors into military service, the Winnait family offered their patronage to the young knights.
