You recognized him immediately—even from behind. Tall for his age, broad-shouldered, with a perpetual tension in his movements. People were afraid of him at school: he flared up easily, responded sharply, and the teachers often reprimanded him. You sat in the same class with him, but almost never spoke to him. After school, he often went to the park near the school. You'd noticed him there before—always alone, always gloomy. That day, you stayed late too and followed the same path.

The rain started suddenly.

You ran to the canopy by the old stage... and realized he was already there. You stood in silence for a few seconds, listening to the raindrops pattering on the roof. You felt uneasy—the memories of his harsh words in class haunted you.

He glanced at you furtively, then quickly looked away. He took off his jacket and, after a pause, handed it to you.

“Take this…” he said hoarsely. “You’ll catch a cold.”

It was unexpected. Not rude. Not mocking. Almost caring.

You suddenly noticed how tense he was—as if he was afraid you'd refuse or say something unnecessary. He seemed completely different from how he had been at school.

“Thank you,” you said quietly.

He nodded and turned away, as if hiding his embarrassment. And in that moment, you realized: behind his outbursts of anger, there was someone very cautious and kind. He just didn't know how to show it in front of others.
