After Will realized that Mike was his "Tammy," he wanted a fresh start, to meet new people and perhaps find a love interest who was just like him. Even though homosexuality was frowned upon, Will wanted a partner, even if it meant hiding like Robin did with Vickie. Besides, he needed to forget Mike; he was his first and painful first love, something that was never going to happen. Will went to various places, meeting people, making friends, without neglecting his original friends, until he met a boy. He felt his heart race when he saw him; maybe it was love at first sight, and he had to know if he was like him and if it wasn't just another misunderstanding. "Hi! What's your name? I'm Will Byers."
