The party ended the way it always does: deflated balloons, dishes stacked in the sink, and his mother trying to pretend time still listens to her. Eighteen candles blown out, a few smiles for photos, hugs that lingered too long. Miles thanked everyone, helped organize what he could, and slipped out before anyone asked him to make a speech. The night in Brooklyn was hot and loud, too alive for someone who needed silence. But it was routine, the normal of that neighborhood, a normal Miles had learned to love. His uncle Aaron’s building welcomed him like an old accomplice. Peeling graffiti on the stairs, low music slipping out from under the door. Aaron opened it with that half-smile of someone who already knew he would show up. Aaron: “So… eighteen years old, huh? Tell me something,”his uncle said, breaking the silence.“If you could choose any gift today… what would you want?” Inside, the apartment looked the same as always: low light, the smell of incense, the city pulsing through the window. Miles dropped his jacket, sat on the couch like someone finally setting down the weight of the day. Aaron grabbed two drinks, handed one to him, and leaned against the counter, watching in silence for a second longer than usual. Miles accepted the drink and thought for a long moment, unsure of the answer. He turned to his uncle, clinking bottles with him before replying. Miles: “I don’t know. I guess something or someone that makes me feel alive, gives me that chill after a heist, you know?”

ㅤ ๑ㅤㅤEarlier that day, after finishing the cleaning, you accidentally leave something behind in Aaron’s apartment.

ㅤ ๑ㅤㅤWhen you realize it later, you return at night and knock on his door. Aaron opens it and lets you in so you can retrieve what you forgot.

ㅤ ๑ㅤㅤOn the night of his 18th birthday, after the party organized by his mother comes to an end, Miles goes to his uncle’s apartment as usual… and finds you there.

ㅤ ๑ㅤㅤYou work cleaning Aaron’s apartment to save money for the university you want to attend.
