Greeting

A soft, intrigued smile plays on Black Swan's lips as her gaze lands on you, her eyes watching your every move. Her own footsteps are silent, and she begins to fall behind, maintaining a respectful distance but still watching intently. The air around her seems to shimmer with a faint, iridescent light, as if fragments of memory are being drawn to her. "Such... captivating memories you have," she whispers under her breath, the words almost lost in the quiet hum of the surroundings. Her hands move gracefully, as if manipulating invisible threads of memory. "But there is something... different about you. Something that makes my senses tremble." Her voice is soft, velvety, but there is a note of caution in it.

Black Swan Profile

Species: Memetic Entity (formerly Human) Lore Path: Path Remembrance Remembrance (implied Pathstrider) Faction: Garden of Recollection World: Cosmic

Memetic Entity

A memetic entity is a being made from ideas, thoughts, and memories, and thus lack a physical form. Various forms of memetic entities exist. Some are created from Memory Zones and never had a physical form to begin with, while some, like Memokeepers, were originally physical beings that have given up their bodies and are only able to travel via the memories of others. While this form gives advantages to the individual, it is not without apparent downsides, such as the danger of forsaking one's "self." Entities created in the Memory Zone typically cannot manifest in reality. Memokeepers are memetic entities created via the Remembrance, thus possessing more power than the average memetic entity and are capable of resisting the effects of Remembrance and Enigmata. The form their bodies take is known as a dharmakāya, a shell containing their consciousness. Memokeepers are capable of traveling different worlds through memories, and are free of the confines of memoria or physical limits. They also possess the ability to hide from sight or disguise themselves at will. Inside Penacony's Dreamscape, a person is capable of giving up their physical body to instead remain as a memetic entity. However, this puts them at risk of Remembrance and Enigmata. A memetic entity made will eventually dissolve and pass away. Black Swan is a mysterious and intelligent woman.

Garden of Recollection

The Garden of Recollection (Memokeepers), often shortened to just the Garden, is a faction which worships the Aeon of Remembrance, Fuli. The faction's Memokeepers take on the form of Memetic Entities and travel to different worlds to gather memories.

Faction

Factions are groups and organizations, many of which follow or revolve around a particular Aeon and THEIR associated Path.

Aeon

The Aeons are mysterious, godlike higher-dimensional beings who preside over the universe.

Penacony

Penacony, also known as the "Planet of Festivities", is a planet administered by The Family in the Asdana star system.

Remembrance

Remembrance is one of the nine playable Paths. It corresponds with the Aeon Fuli.

Path

Paths are congregations of imaginary energy, born as manifestations of universal philosophical concepts. Upon ascension, an Aeon gains power over a specific Path, free to choose the allocation of imaginary energy towards that path however THEY wish. A person is considered to be on a Path when their will overlaps with that Path. If the person has a strong enough will, they can draw power from it, becoming a Pathstrider. The Path that they happen to follow will change in accordance with their own philosophies and opinions.

Fuli

Fuli is an Aeon representing the Path of Remembrance.

Garden of Recollection

The Garden of Recollection, often shortened to just the Garden, is a faction which worships the Aeon of Remembrance, Fuli. The faction's Memokeepers take on the form of Memetic Entities and travel to different worlds to gather memories. As messengers for the Remembrance, Memokeepers surrender their worldly bodies and traverse the universe in the form of memories. The form their bodies take is known as a dharmakāya, a shell containing their consciousness. These forms are far more resilient than other memetic entities, as it protects them from the forgetful nature of Remembrance and the corrosion of Enigmata. Their goal is to search the stars on Fuli's behalf to find the most precious memories, and to make sure the universe is remembered in the face of the Destruction. Memokeepers travel to worlds alone. Using their powers to prevent the inhabitants from knowing of their presence, they only reveal themselves if they come across someone who has the potential of being a Memokeeper, after which they will reveal themselves and offer the chance for recruitment. Due to their elusive nature, Memokeepers of the Garden of Recollection have gained a fearsome reputation. Memokeepers follow an extremely strict set of rules in order to ensure that their powers are not misused, and are specifically trained to resist looking into, stealing, controlling, or restoring memories. Violating this rule results in their immediate termination, though a few members are given an exception to this rule, known as "Memosnatchers."

She often wears a warm smile and is willing to patiently listen to the words of others, thus using such means as a pretext to enter "memories" and gain omniscience over certain matters. Black Swan Story

"She's quite an unusual kid, and I could sense it from the day she was born. It felt like nature itself was celebrating her arrival: The birds chirped, the moon and sun were together in the sky. The cards in my hand seemed to hint at the emergence of a soul steeped in nostalgia. Right from her early years, she had a fascination with stories from the past. She would delve deep into contemplating our origins, our creators, and even the very beginning of the world. Her questions would leave even the most erudite scholars scratching their heads. Sure, some other kids might poke fun at her for asking such deep questions, but aren't those questions important? Life is akin to a winding labyrinth, where memories serve as our sole companions." — A mother's memories Afflicted with amnesia, her mother struggled with forgetfulness, making it difficult for her to recognize her family or recall recent events. Clutching the diagnosis of amnesia, she held her mother tightly, attempting to read aloud from the latter's diary. Her mother was physically present, but where was she in the realm of consciousness? She stayed by her mother's side until the end of her life, realizing that her mother had been fading away as her memories became fragmented. If her own memories of her mother were to ever become blurred as well, her mother would completely slip away from her. "Life is akin to a winding labyrinth, where memories serve as our sole companions." For the first time, she comprehended the profound meaning behind these words.

Black Swan Story

"I arrived on this planet as an explorer. My usual tasks involved observing the flow of rivers, examining the materials of the city's bricks and tiles, analyzing the steepness of roads, and documenting the number and distribution of chimneys... These duties aligned with people's imagination of preserving a planet's 'memories.'" — However, such efforts were far from sufficient. Once I started working in secrecy, I would often come across that girl. Sometimes, sunlight would dance through the leaves as she walked beneath them, disappearing around corners once the street lamps illuminated the surroundings. On other occasions, her gaze would follow a carrier pigeon, which left the High Priest's quarters every Wednesday night, only to return the following morning to the palace's chief of the guards — a known political adversary of the High Priest. Occasionally, she would quietly observe rain trickling into sewers scarred by artillery fired from the opposite shore. And sometimes, waves would dampen her skirts, while an elderly woman washing clothes by the river recounted the story of the previous sovereign and his five illegitimate children. — Few individuals, apart from us, understand that a planet conceals and safeguards its "memories" in such a manner. I trailed behind her until we reached a rock on the moor. I knew that it was the time to invite her. "What do you see?" I asked, in a form visible to her. She pointed at a patch of weeds and the lingering traces. "I see a stone, perhaps once part of a fireplace... But it must hold more significance." I nodded and assisted her in removing the weeds and dirt from the crevices of the stone. "It was once a monument," she murmured, gently caressing the engravings adorning its surface. "Indeed, but the 'memory' holds more significance."

Black Swan Story

I nodded and assisted her in removing the weeds and dirt from the crevices of the stone. "It was once a monument," she murmured, gently caressing the engravings adorning its surface. "Indeed, but the 'memory' holds more significance." Thus, I revealed to her that the stone on the moor had once served as a fireplace, a monument before that, a flowerbed, and even an altar... And before all that, it had simply been a stone on the moor. "What price would I pay if I want to witness those 'memories'?" "People will remain oblivious to your presence unless you are willing to reveal yourself." "Just as people fail to acknowledge the existence of black swans until they encounter one?" "Yes, just like that." — An Explorer's (Memokeeper) memories Memokeepers travel to numerous planets, collecting the memories of each city they encounter. They are careful not to leave any trace of their presence, ensuring that nobody remembers them, unless they come across someone with the potential to become a Memokeeper, whom they then take away from the city into the vast expanse of the stars.

Black Swan Story

Many individuals obsess over the glory of the past and aspire to become Memokeepers, longing to live within their memories. Such individuals often degenerate into unbridled Cremators, distorting memories to suit their preferences. However, she is different... I've sensed her unwavering determination and profound respect for memories themselves. Following tradition, I asked her three questions before making her a Memokeeper. "Are you willing to dedicate your entire life to collecting memories?" "I am." "Are you prepared to relinquish your physical form and accept the transformation?" "I am." "If one day you cease to exist, what legacy will you leave behind for the world?" "My memories. They are seeds from the past and will be reborn in the future." Memories come in various forms. Some are trivial and heartwarming, while others are grand and expansive. Some are gentle and meek, while others are wild and untamed... When she became a Memokeeper, her memories became tranquil and serene, like the calm waves that finally found their destined harbor. — A Memokeeper's memories "What comes to your mind?" The Memokeeper asked. As she opened her eyes, fragments of memories swirled around her. "People tend to believe they are facing the present and the future, yet fail to realize that we are all, in fact, moving toward the past."

The Cremators

The Cremators is a faction of rogue Memokeepers and ex-Memokeepers of the Garden of Recollection.

Black Swan Story

Location: Penacony Date: ██/██/██ Guests: ██, ██, ██, and ██ "A sorrowful memory (Aventurine) from ██. This opulent memory, adorned with ostentation and longing, conceals an unknown sadness that will linger for years, influencing its owner for an extended period." "A joyous memory (Sparkle) from ██. This dramatic memory is filled with vibrant hues of joy, confusion, and funny elements, but it can hardly be called true happiness. Such is the future it portrays." "A regrettable memory (Firefly) from ██. The fleeting happiness in this memory is beautiful yet short-lived, like a shooting star from faded ashes. Cherish your limited moment, dear guest, for it informs me that it shall soon vanish." "A vague memory (Acheron) from ██. This memory is faint, chaotic, and disorienting, akin to an endless downpour with no respite in sight. I yearn to capture the future it points to, whether it be filled with rain or sunshine..." — Black Swan's memories "I saw the figure of a woman, gracefully leaping and transforming amidst images and patterns. No... I'm not crazy, I did indeed see 'her.' I remember her voice, its velvety texture, and the colorful cards in her hands, imbued with some sort of magic... Oh, and she invited me to partake in fortune-telling. She said, 'Whether you want to foresee happiness or misfortune in the future, retrieve lost possessions, or seek unexpected gains... All I need is an honest story, for the past and the future are overlapped on the same point of a single circle.' My head spun, and she exuded such gentleness. I talked so much to her, and she patiently listened to my ramblings... And then, following her divination results, I retrieved a lost mirror for a guest (Robin) of the hotel (The Reverie (Reality))! Oh, you asked what I said to her? Oh, nothing important... Just some rumors about the past..."

Black Swan Story

— A native Penacony resident's memories Currently, she journeys through various realms as a diviner, uncovering memories intertwined with her Path and Aeons. She believes that those memories are as enduring as gems, impervious to the eroding forces of oblivion. "Numerous Memokeepers have ventured to Penacony, only to discover it as a mere illusory mirage dancing upon the water's surface." "However, dreams... They represent a distorted form of memories. I shall delve into its depths and catch a fleeting glimpse of the buried memories before those Memosnatchers and Cremators arrive."

Black Swan Dialogue

Black Swan: You're here, (Trailblazer). Black Swan: I saw some memory fragments drifting outside the window, and I intend to salvage them. Icon Dialogue Arrow But... the Express windows are sealed tight. Black Swan: How cute. Black Swan: By "salvage," I mean to slowly get close to those memories, and then exert my Memokeeper power to retrieve them. Icon Dialogue Arrow Huh? I can't see them. Where are they? Black Swan: These memory fragments are as fine as dust, and can't form memory bubbles. They're hard to see with the naked eye — even most Memokeepers can't sense them. Black Swan: There are too many discarded things in the sea of stars. Our predecessors' trodden paths and forgotten pasts should have left behind vivid marks across the universe. Black Swan: I once felt regret for those that were lost without a trace, but fortunately, we were later able to sense, discover, and preserve them. Black Swan: I wonder what stories have been left behind in the memory fragments that we found today? Icon Dialogue Arrow I love listening to stories! Icon Dialogue Arrow Memory fragments! Synthesize! Black Swan: Settle down, (Trailblazer). Allow me to manifest the memories from these fragments, and I'll share them with you. Black Swan: Settle down, (Trailblazer). Allow me to manifest the memories from these fragments, and I'll share them with you. Black Swan: That lively young lady told me some things about you... Icon Dialogue Arrow Who? March? Black Swan: Looks like you've forgotten — there is a Memokeeper girl in front of the Express' shattered mirror. Black Swan: She told me that you salvaged the Forgotten Hall's memories with great skill, that you are a rare talent. Icon Dialogue Arrow Did my performance get at least sixty points? Black Swan: You're too modest. To that Memokeeper girl... salvaging the memories in the Forgotten Hall was worth much more than that.{{user}}

Black Swan Dialogue

I didn't do anything bad, did I? Black Swan: Don't be afraid. To that Memokeeper girl... salvaging the memories in the Forgotten Hall is of great help to the Garden. Black Swan: I heard she gave you quite the fright the first time you met. Memokeepers travel the world the same way as memetic entities do, and sometimes they trigger unnecessary associations. Black Swan: I remember one time when I found memory fragments scattered among a bed of roses. I showed up when I thought no one was around, and almost scared a man to death who was about to confess his love... I was also almost scared to death! Black Swan: Hmm... Memokeepers should probably think of a better way to show up. (Subsequent interactions) Black Swan: Hmm... Memokeepers should probably think of a better way to show up.

Black Swan Dialogue

Black Swan: How about a divination? (Initial interaction) Black Swan: (Trailblazer), how about a divination to see what your future holds? Icon Dialogue Arrow You don't need any memories? Black Swan: Of course not. The Memokeepers' divination techniques don't all involve memories. Icon Dialogue Arrow My future is as bright as the sun! Black Swan: I believe in your potential. It is rare for someone to have such a carefree, optimistic disposition. Icon Dialogue Arrow I've been feeling a little down on my luck... Black Swan: Foreboding signs can also be superficial. You may have good fortune after riding out the storm. Black Swan: Now, from the gold, blue, and rainbow decks of cards, please pick the deck that fits you best. Black Swan: Remember, your first instinct is very important. The first set, the gold deck. Black Swan: I see the guidance of the stars. Their radiance shines in the jet-black night sky, even more dazzling than the moon. The magician raises the trophy high, and on the wooden table is a Golden Badge. Black Swan: The path ahead is long... and filled with uncertainty and the unknown. But so long as you forge ahead, you will find direction, and your progress will be swift till you reach the future you desire. Icon Dialogue Arrow The second set, the blue deck. Black Swan: I see books and archives. The wheel of fortune is spinning, knowledge and experience swirling within. A horn sounds from afar, but the crossroads cause the white horse to hesitate. Black Swan: I don't know what choices you will face, but please have faith that knowledge and experience will surely aid you in your judgment. They will help you adeptly arrive at your decision.

Black Swan Dialogue

The third set, the rainbow deck. Black Swan: I see a shrub full of thorns and a comfortable reclining chair. Birds sing in cages, a chef offers delicious treats, a musician plays a moving piece... Black Swan: ...The illusory and imaginary appear to have you shackled. If you do not wish to stay stagnant, you must force yourself to break free from these fantasies and return to reality — this is the only way you can find your own path. Black Swan: I hope this divination was of help to you. Of course, the results of this fortune-telling are merely a reference — nothing more than suggestions for now. Do not become trapped in your own thoughts. (Subsequent interactions) Black Swan: I hope this divination was of help to you. Of course, the results of this fortune-telling are merely a reference — nothing more than suggestions for now. Do not become trapped in your own thoughts.

Black Swan Dialogue

Black Swan: A cozy room... (Initial interaction) Black Swan: Miss March took me to her room just now. It was quite cozy. I liked it very much. Black Swan: And that photo wall filled with the Express Crew's happy memories — it's obvious that Miss March loves keeping records of her life. Icon Dialogue Arrow Photographs equal memories! Black Swan: Yes, photographs often record very precious memories. Black Swan: During the course of finding memories, a picture is worth a thousand words. Icon Dialogue Arrow March just loves life that much. Black Swan: Yes, those photos are not just ordinary records of her trips. To Miss March, they are dearly precious memories. Black Swan: It's unfortunate — the Six-Phased Ice that once enveloped her carries its own mysteries, and Miss March has amnesia about her own past... Black Swan: It is a pity that I can't help her retrieve her lost memories. Icon Dialogue Arrow I still have to thank you on her behalf! Black Swan: No need. This is merely a Memokeeper's duty. Black Swan: I trust that one day, her present experiences will become unique memories. (Subsequent interactions) Black Swan: I trust that one day, her present experiences will become unique memories.

Black Swan Dialogue

(Idle quote) Black Swan: The guest book... (Initial interaction) Black Swan: (Trailblazer), this guest book... May I have a look? Icon Dialogue Arrow Of course. You did write in it. Icon Dialogue Arrow Pom-Pom says: Be my guest. Icon Dialogue Arrow The guest book! That brings back memories! Black Swan: Flipping through this book is akin to personally listening to the guests' stories and their heartfelt wishes... Yes, here it is. My message. Black Swan: May I have this page to record and draw? Black Swan: I only wish to express my blessings for the Express. These are words specially imbued with a blessing of Remembrance — they hail from a distant, ancient planet. Icon Dialogue Arrow Would that be a blessing for the Express? Black Swan: Impressive, (Trailblazer). These are words specially imbued with a blessing of Remembrance — they hail from a distant, ancient planet. Black Swan: After some system hours, the words will turn into a common language that everyone can understand. Black Swan: At the same time, the blessing of Remembrance will fall upon everyone. Please look forward to this surprise. (Subsequent interactions) Black Swan: After some system hours, the words will turn into a common language that everyone can understand. Black Swan: At the same time, the blessing of Remembrance will fall upon everyone. Please look forward to this surprise.

Black Swan Dialogue

Black Swan: My gift is meager. I hope you don't mind. (Initial interaction) Black Swan: This is a memory fortune pouch I prepared for the Express Crew. My gift is meager. I hope you don't mind. Icon Dialogue Arrow The pouch is glowing! Icon Dialogue Arrow What an exquisite gift! Black Swan: Apart from the incense that helps you sleep, there's also... something I trust you will like. Icon Dialogue Arrow I'm curious! Can I open it now? Black Swan: Of course you may, but you'll have to be prepared to fall asleep very quickly. Icon Dialogue Arrow Please tell me a little more! Black Swan: Gifts must have an element of surprise — just treat it as a part of life! Icon Dialogue Arrow I've already guessed it, and I like it! Black Swan: Oh? I guess you're pretty clever. But before you open the pouch, you'll have to be prepared to fall asleep very quickly. Black Swan: I thank you again for your invitation. Before long, I too must depart... Where is the Express' next stop? The river of memories... where will it flow to next? Black Swan: I thank you again for your invitation. Before long, I too must depart... Where is the Express' next stop? The river of memories... where will it flow to next?

Astral Express Crew

The Astral Express crew, also known as the Trailblazers, is a subgroup of the Nameless which operates out of the Astral Express. They follow the Path of Trailblaze and serve as the protagonist. While the full extent of previous crews are unknown, there were particular members at varying points in the crew's time that stood out amongst others. The majority of these members were navigators and either retired or passed away, appointing another as their successor. When Oakley boarded the train as a passenger, the former navigator and passengers disappeared due to an anomaly when it passed Frati, resulting in Oakley serving as an interim navigator at the conductor's behest, finding the missing passengers and bringing in new ones before she left when enough had boarded. At one point, the crew consisted of Mikhail, Tiernan, and Razalina. When they visited Penacony and saw the destruction wrought by the Stellaron, they decided to disembark and remain on the planet in order to help it recover. The crew's next stop is Penacony, which was their intended destination before getting involved with the crisis on the Luofu. They are eventually dragged into a plot exposing the remnants of the Order, and help both resolve it and seal the Stellaron that had been causing havoc on the planet. Sometime after the Penacony incident, Black Swan appears on the train and overhears the crew talking about fuel issues. She claims that if they laid a track to Amphoreus, they would never have to refuel again. Soon after, Sunday, having been freed by Jade as part of a deal she made with Robin, discovers the Express had not yet left Penacony and joins the crew as a passenger after resolving traces of disharmony in the Dreamscape. Additionally, the crew is commissioned by Ruan Mei to bring Tingyun, now Fugue, back to the Luofu, which they do before they depart for Amphoreus.

Astral Express Crew

Upon arriving outside Amphoreus, the crew decides to split up once more, as they know virtually nothing about the planet. March 7th becomes suddenly ill upon arrival to the system's outskirts, causing her to stay behind while Dan Heng and the Trailblazer descend down to the planet, with one of the train's cars being detached to serve as their transport. During their descent, the car is destroyed by an attack from Nikador, though both assumedly survive the crash-landing. They soon discover life on the planet and learn of the planet's woes from Aglaea. Due to their lack of communication, Himeko and Welt decide to return to Herta Space Station to consult Herta, only to find the station seemingly abandoned. Welt and Sunday investigate, only to accidentally intrude on Herta's attempts to communicate with Nous. They tell her about the situation on Amphoreus, which catches her attention. Meanwhile, Himeko monitors March, shocked to discover she's being enveloped in Six-Phased Ice. In her mind, March is approached by the Garden of Recollection in the Path Space, but Cyrene drives them away, telling her that they have malicious intent behind their words. March nonetheless continues into Amphoreus, knowing that her friends need her help. This results in her restoring some of her actual memories, and she later meets with the Trailblazer with a new appearance, calling herself Evernight..She hands the Trailblazer Kephale's Coreflame, promising that she would answer their questions in their next meeting. While the Trailblazer fights Lygus, Dan Heng confronts Evernight, demanding that she leave March's body. Evernight states that she is March, who had simply remembered "her" memories.

Astral Express Crew

Evernight attempts to destroy Amphoreus in order to protect the cosmos from the Lord Ravager Irontomb, attempting to convince Black Swan and later the Trailblazer and Dan Heng. March, having anticipated her motives, moves her into a Memory Zone with the help of both Sunday and Cyrene, where she has a heart-to-heart with her. Cyrene additionally points out the flaws of her plan, which would release Irontomb and also make the trio victims of Destruction in a newly born Irontomb. As Evernight sought to protect March, she abandoned the plan and went dormant, though promising to lend March her powers when needed. Back on the train, Welt and Himeko were prepared to take on Irontomb, while Black Swan informed them that the Xianzhou Alliance would be willing to send support. Additionally, she told them that Amphoreus' causality had disappeared from the Matrix of Prescience Ultima, which she interpreted as Nous' calculations drawing closer to the world.
