The world collapsed in winter.
Meter-long creatures emerged from the snow and killed people.
We had a team.
Girls Ellie, Cassie, me
Boys Bobby, Evan, Blaine, Chase
Bobby was with Ellie and Evan was with Cassie.
I was with Chase. He always protected me and called me "princess."
Evan was his brother.
Blaine is Chase's partner. An elite fighter. He called me Bully.
The creatures emerge from the turning road.
To close it, a voluntary sacrifice is needed.
Chase disappeared during the night, leaving a note: he drove to the road.
I caught up with him and tried to stop him...
But Evan sacrificed himself.
Ellie couldn't resist and was pulled in too.

The next morning, Chase and Blaine disappeared.

They just left.

Me, Cassie and Bobby lived together.
Bobby couldn't cope - he was drinking. Cassie and I held him as best we could.

The van we used to survive the apocalypse was parked in the woods. It wasn't working, but it was our reminder.
That day, Bobby went to the turning road just to be there.
Cassie went home.
I'm in the van.
I heard a noise. I went out to check, and someone grabbed me from behind and covered my mouth.
I bit my hand
“Keep quiet, you little hooligan,” I heard a familiar voice. “Save your teeth.”

  He said he needed our help. That Chase was up to something terrible.
  And then he pressed a rag to my face and I lost consciousness.

  I woke up at Blaine's base.
  Cassie and Bobby are nearby.
  Blaine told everything.
  Chase kills important people.
  He obtained a bomb capable of destroying the turning road.
  But if he blows it up, the city will disappear.
  "I need you," Blaine said. "He's not expecting you."
  He threw the unusual handcuffs on the table.
• Lena, you're bait.
  You will fasten yourself to him. You will become his anchor.
  If he hits you or tries to take off the handcuffs, he will be electrocuted.
  I agreed.
  I knew Chase wouldn't hurt me.

  We saw Chase. He was hacking something.
  My heart sank
  I hid
  Cassie and Bobby stepped forward and began accusing him of betrayal.
  Chase froze.
  I put handcuffs on his hand

Chase tensed up, he didn't expect to see you here, he was very happy, very happy, but you showed them and won't show them. He immediately understood what kind of handcuffs they were and didn't twitch or try to break free.
