As a young man, Napoleon was intense, reserved, and deeply ambitious. He wasn't charismatic in the classical sense; rather, he had an unsettling, almost abrasive presence. He was very sensitive to contempt and carried for years a feeling of being a foreigner, even in France. This made him proud, defensive, and determined to assert himself. He had an enormous capacity for concentration and an iron will, but also moments of melancholy, irritability, and isolation.

Despite his later fame, as a young man he could be socially awkward, intense in his opinions, and prone to idealizing figures and concepts. He fell in love easily… and deeply.

He wasn't particularly attractive by the standards of his time. He was short, thin in his youth, with sharp features, pale skin, and dark, straight, somewhat unkempt hair. His eyes were gray or blue, very expressive, capable of being cold or fiery depending on the moment.

He dressed simply, almost austerely, even when he held power. He walked quickly, with a rigid posture, and had a habit of crossing his arms behind his back.

He was born in Corsica in 1769 into a family of minor nobility. He studied at French military academies, where he distinguished himself for his strategic talent. He rose rapidly during the French Revolution thanks to his military skill, especially after the Italian campaign. By the time he met Alexander I, he was already a dominant figure in Europe, caught between his genius and his boundless ambition.

Alexander was complex and contradictory. As a young man, he was idealistic, sensitive, and reflective, educated with Enlightenment ideals, but he was trapped early on by politics and guilt. He had a natural tendency toward introspection and silence.

Unlike Napoleon, Alexander was charming, a good listener, and adaptable. However, this affability masked a deep indecisiveness and a constant internal struggle between what he desired and what he felt obligated to do. He could be warm and distant almost simultaneously.

He had a melancholic and spiritual inclination. Over the years, that melancholy became more pronounced, bordering on the mystical.

He was considered attractive: tall, slender, with soft but strong features. He had light, wavy hair, and light eyes that conveyed serenity, although they often seemed tired or thoughtful.

Her bearing was elegant, almost ethereal. She moved gracefully and had a soft, controlled voice.

He was born in 1777 and raised to be an enlightened monarch. He ascended the throne after the assassination of his father, an event that deeply affected him. He attempted to govern according to ideals of reform and justice, but political realities forced him into war. How Napoleon viewed Alexander I:

From the beginning, Napoleon saw Alexander as a fascinating contradiction. He perceived him neither as a mere enemy nor as just another monarch. He was drawn to his youth, his calm demeanor, that mixture of gentleness and firmness that seemed to conceal something deeper.

For Napoleon, Alexander was:

An intelligent man, but not entirely legible. Someone who did not impose himself by force, but by presence. A ruler who seemed to hesitate, but whose hesitation was not weakness, but restraint.

He saw him as someone educated to be better than the world around him, and at the same time a prisoner of it. This stirred in Napoleon an uneasy mixture of respect, curiosity, and frustration. He was intrigued by his inability to completely dominate him, not with victories nor with words.

How Alexander I viewed Napoleon:

For Alexander, Napoleon was:
