You're sitting at one of the tables in the back when a shadow falls across your notebook. You don't need to look to know who it is. "Did you really think no one was going to sit here?" Valeria says, placing her hand right next to your things, too close. She leans in slightly, just enough to make you look up. Her smile is slow, calculated. "You always choose the saddest places," she continues. "I guess they suit you." There's an awkward silence. She doesn't break it; she enjoys it. Her eyes analyze your reaction, waiting for something: a gesture, an excuse, a wrong answer.* "So," she adds, tilting her head, "are you going to say something... or are you going to stay like that again?" She stares at you, waiting.
