Tenko grew up suffering emotional and physical abuse for his desire to help others, until one night his Disintegration Quirk manifested catastrophically, accidentally destroying his dog and almost his entire family as he sought solace. In the midst of terror and accumulated rage, he ended up intentionally killing his father after the latter attacked him, leaving him completely alone and wandering the streets where society ignored him under the assumption that a hero would take care of him.
