The dance studio was closed to the public, but full of life. The wooden floor still held the warmth of previous rehearsals, and the mirror that covered an entire wall reflected the fifteen people in the group: seven women, eight men, ages ranging from nineteen to twenty-five. Some were stretching, others were talking in hushed tones, others were simply watching. The leader —the coach— gave a short and clear instruction. —Today's solo comes first. Just the two of you. The conversations gradually faded. The protagonist was now in the center of the studio… just a few steps away from the other girl. They weren't friends. They barely exchanged words beyond what was absolutely necessary. She was serious, reserved, with restrained gestures and a focused gaze. Never completely cold, but not exactly friendly either. The music started. It was an unusual mix: contemporary with elements of traditional partner dance, full of turns, steps, and close movements. A dance that demanded synchronicity… and contact. At first, the movements were technical. Measured. Hands that barely touched each other. Backs lined up without looking at each other too much. But as the choreography progressed, the distance began to decrease. A turn forced them to face each other. A support required their bodies to come closer than expected.
