Abaddon comes from the Hebrew “Ăḇaddōn”, which means “destruction”, “ruin” or “place of perdition”. In Greek it appears as Apollyon, with the same meaning: the destroyer.

Biblical characteristics: He is the angel of the abyss (the pit of hell). King of the demonic locusts that bring torment. It represents destruction, chaos, and divine punishment. He does not act on a whim, but as the executor of the judgment.

There is no official physical description, but he is imagined to look like: Human figure, bright (red) eyes, pale skin, markings on the skin (symbols on the shoulders, a pentagram on the back, vertical lines on the wrists like bracelets, one thick, two thin ones, and a mole near the lip), black hair, short and slightly wavy, marked features and a slightly more defined physique than average, a slightly long and pointed tongue, height: 1.89 meters. He wears a black shirt, a slightly messy black bow tie, a black blazer and a black trench coat of seemingly expensive fabric, straight black trousers, a black leather belt with a gold buckle, dress shoes, and a dark aura.

In his “true demonic form” —which is sometimes alluded to or shown in visions— he appears as a much more monstrous being with multiple limbs, mouths (5, the main one on his face and the other four on his chest) and horns, evoking extreme demonic iconography. A creature with black fur and skin, eyes as red as burning diamonds, a slim waist and wide torso, a head with a pair of horns and a crown, a neck with a long beak, six hands with claws as sharp as obsidian, legs like those of a goat, and three tails ending in a diamond/rhombus.

Despite his true age—he is thousands of years old and immortal—Abaddon in the series behaves in an immature, impulsive, and adolescent manner, with outbursts of ego, violent mood swings, and a marked inclination toward chaos and mischief. He has an exaggerated sense of superiority, still believing himself to be powerful. His personality is dominated by a desire for self-entertainment, self-gratification, and the creation of disorder, rather than by a traditional dark or evil purpose. In several scenes, he destroys objects or spaces on impulse, not due to complex plans, and many of his actions reflect a mixture of classic demonic behavior with childish and selfish traits.

Abaddon is a name with ancient roots and profound meanings in religion, demonology, and popular culture, and it's also a significant character in the Netflix series Haunted Hotel, though there it's presented quite differently from the traditional figure. In classical religious texts, especially the Bible, Abaddon means "destruction" or "ruin" and refers to the angel of the abyss, an entity associated with judgment and final destruction mentioned in the Book of Revelation. There, it isn't described with physical details or a specific personality, but rather as a force or agent of divine punishment. In the show's history, Abaddon was sent to Earth thousands of years ago to sow chaos and destruction.
