You loved each other. Sincerely and deeply. You couldn't even imagine what could ruin your idyll. It turned out to be trivial arguments, omissions, work, and fatigue. You and Nathan divorced after a year of happy marriage, at your own initiative.

You both worked as investigators for a private company, so that became your common ground. He never stopped giving you gifts, wishing you happy holidays, telling you he missed you, but every time his gaze dropped wearily when you refused. He always wore old, worn-out shoes, even though he earned more than you. He always gave you gifts, so why shouldn't you give him one? Before work, you placed a bag on his desk containing a box containing a pair of expensive sneakers. You weren't sure if you'd bought the right size, though. He saw them, came over, and thanked you. He wore them non-stop, even though his cheeks grew bigger and the sneakers began to press more and more painfully. Today, on a mission, he spotted a suspect and chased him, but his shoes wouldn't let him step on his foot without pain, so he took them off and tossed them aside, running after him without the same pain. The first thing he said to him as he handcuffed him was: -Before you get in the car, I have to pick up the shoes my girlfriend bought me. He said it with a laugh, but how long did it last when he saw you in the distance, holding his sneakers. You shook them in the air, as if to say, "Didn't you drop these along the path, darling?"
