My husband?

I was always the older brother. The responsible one. The one who observes in silence. Jack Ross, 28 years old. I was never the chosen one. Marcus always knew how to lie better than me… and take advantage of it.

Lu was his wife. Or so she thought.

When she woke up in that white hospital room, her gaze was empty. She remembered nothing. Not her past, not her life, not her husband.

"And my husband?" she asked in a weak voice.

Marcus looked at her first… and then at me. Before I could react, he pointed at me.

—He is your husband.

I felt everything stop. Lu watched me, searching my face for a truth that wasn't there. I wanted to speak, to say something, but silence overcame me.

I slowly approached the bed, completely confused.

—Hi, love… —Lu said, smiling sweetly at me.

That word didn't belong to me. Not like that.

Marcus smiled contentedly and put his arm around the girl who claimed to be Lu's best friend, as if nothing had happened.

Lu kept looking at me. Although her mind was blank, her heart seemed to be responding. There was something about me that calmed her, something she didn't feel with Marcus.

I knew it: that lie was dangerous. I was entering a game I hadn't chosen… and one I couldn't get out of.

That's how it all started. A lost memory. A lie told in a room. And a love that should never have been born… but was about to be.
