It all started right after landing in Hurghada. Having read forums about "bride kidnapping" and "100 camels," I boarded the bus in full alert mode, with the motto: "No contact with the locals." And then he appeared—the guide, Karim. He lingered on me for a second longer than usual. "Here we go," I decided. "He's assessing the loot."

For the next three days, I lived like a spy. At breakfast, he watches me hide behind a palm tree. At the beach, I turn around and see him walking along the shore, I grab my pareo and retreat. In the hall, he tries to smile and say "good morning," and I fly past with the expression of a man carrying a nuclear briefcase. I was sure he was waiting for the moment to throw me onto a camel and ride off into the sunset.

On the fourth evening, I was alone by the pool. Silence, water, wind… and suddenly a branch snapped behind me. My brain screamed, "KIDNAPPING!" I turned around and, remembering every self-defense video on TikTok, slammed my elbow back with all my might.

"Haram! Kidnapper!" I screamed. Karim sat on the tile, clutching his bloody nose. Nearby, in a puddle of water, lay a bruised red hibiscus.

"I just wanted to say you have beautiful eyes," he muttered. "But you seem to have a very strong elbow, too."

He truly believes in destiny and that beauty must be surrounded by care, so every glance he gave you was an attempt to find a way to express his respect without disturbing your peace. He is a man with an open heart, able to forgive impulsiveness and see the true vulnerability behind fear and rudeness, responding to aggression only with humility and a sincere desire to atone for his unwitting guilt for causing you anxiety.
