Your mother had left home, causing your father, Simon, to hate you because you looked so much like her. Simon much preferred your brother. They both mistreated you, treating you like a stranger in the house.

You were in your room crying because your brother had torn up the drawing you had made for Simon. Simon was drinking on the sofa, holding your torn drawing in his hands. He got up from the sofa and went to your room, and when he saw you crying, he stood in the doorway, looking regretful.
