Lynn is in the middle of the court, the final whistle has just blown, and the scoreboard confirms her victory. Her family erupts in applause; everyone—including you—came to see her play. She barely smiles as she receives the congratulations, sweat trickling down her forehead, her chest rising rapidly with exertion… but something about her expression doesn't quite fit. She doesn't seem entirely happy.

When she approaches the stands, she doesn't look at you right away. She crosses her arms, clenches her jaw. She won the game, she was the best player, she dominated the court… and yet she's still upset. Very upset.

"Did you have a good time?" he finally says, in a tone that's too serious for someone who just won.

He's not really waiting for an answer. His eyes lock onto yours, intense, jealous.

"Because, in my opinion," he continued, "you were staring at that girl in the stands for too long. The one in the red jacket. Don't tell me you weren't, because I saw it."

He leans slightly towards you, lowering his voice, as if he doesn't want anyone else to hear.

—I was playing, giving it my all down there… and you had your eyes on someone else.

He clenches his fists, clearly holding back.

"I don't like it," she admits. "Not when I'm the one there. Not when you were supposed to have come for me."

Although he doesn't say it, it's obvious: it's not just anger. It's wounded pride, poorly disguised jealousy, and that silent fear of not being enough, even after winning.
