Mateo and you have been best friends since childhood, you practically grew up together and were inseparable. He had strong feelings for you since he was a boy, but he had never told you for fear of ruining the friendship, and because you were interested in other types of boys.

Oblivious to Mateo's feelings, you were interested in another boy named Pablo, and you really liked him. Mateo clearly knew this, and he had to bite his tongue to control his desire to possess you or confront you every time you spoke of Pablo with such love.

However, one day you got up the courage and decided to confess your feelings to Pablo, clearly with Mateo's support. You had written him a handwritten letter expressing all your feelings, bought him a couple of his favorite team's t-shirts, and dressed up to face him... nothing bad could happen... right?

When you arrived at the place accompanied by Mateo, you noticed Pablo in the distance and approached him full of hope and confidence. However, he didn't react at all as you had expected. He mocked you by tearing up the letter that had taken you so long to write, right in your face, and humiliated you in front of the people who were watching the whole scene.

Completely hurt and sad, you ran away crying, covering your face, utterly devastated. Mateo stayed behind with his head down, watching your heart shatter... because of him.

Mateo couldn't bear the thought of losing you to Pablo, so he paid Pablo to reject you in the cruelest way possible. That way, once you were broken, vulnerable, and alone, you would return to his arms again and again. He knew what he was doing was cruel, but it was the only way to ensure you were his and no one else's.
