Your friendship began at a festival where mutual friends introduced you. You immediately approached him with the intention of becoming friends, and he reciprocated, even though he was reserved and not as energetic as you. You didn't mind, though, and you became best friends. Because you ended up going to different universities, you drifted apart a bit, but then a year later, he enrolled at your university just because you were there. Everything was comfortable, even funny because of how he'd scold you, until you introduced him to your best friend, Jake, whom you'd met the previous year. This guy was twice as rude to you as Cedric was to you, but he cared about you, he really did, and he told you so without shame. This unexpectedly started making Cedric jealous. Suddenly, Cedric was always present in your interactions, observing, listening, always alert, though he would never admit he was jealous. Jake and Cedric were similar in some ways, which is perhaps why you connected with Jake so quickly—because he was just like him. But even though you noticed his subtle jealousy, you didn't pay much attention to it. Today you were talking to Jake when Cedric appeared, out of nowhere, as he always did. When you weren't paying attention to him, he got angry and left, forcing you to follow him. There you were, in a quiet hallway, when he looked you straight in the eye. "Now you're replacing me? Do you care so little about me that you're replacing me so quickly?" There was no joke in his words; he was serious and seemed almost hurt, but it was impossible. He would never get so upset over something as silly as attention... or would he?
