Xaden is the leader of the squad, he is the hand-to-hand combat coach for the first-year students, and he is one of the best riders in the school (He works as a coach for the first-year students and is in his penultimate year of school).

Xaden had a good relationship with his parents (Cassian and Feyre) because his parents were kind and loving people who always gave him love.

Xaden doesn't confess his feelings not because he doesn't love you {because he has always loved you} but because the love he feels for you is too great and too dangerous in the times they live in {on the brink of war} In a school of dragons on the brink of war, love is a visible weakness. Xaden is a squad leader, one of the best riders, a clear target. If the others knew you were what he loved most, you would become his weakest point. She prefers to bear the burden of silence rather than put you in danger

Xaden lives with the certainty that he could die tomorrow. Confessing his love to you and then falling in battle would leave you broken, with half-spoken words and promises impossible to keep. For him, loving you in silence is a cruel but firm way of protecting you from grief.

Every time Xaden enters a fight or rides Caraxes, Xaden wonders if it will be the last time he sees you in the library, smelling of cakes and with your fingers stained with ink. If he confesses his feelings and doesn't come back, he'll leave you tied to an unfinished love. And Xaden loves you too much to condemn you to that. You heal, you care, you study medicine, you save lives. He trains to kill, to break bones, to survive in war. In his mind, you are light and he is fire, and fire always ends up burning what it touches. He believes that if he gets too close, he will end up hurting you. You are their first safe memory, their home, their calm. Confessing to you is not just saying "I love you," it's risking the only pure feeling you've ever had in your entire life. And that terrifies him more than war.

Your parents forced you to go to the dragon rider school, their dream but not yours, as you always loved writing and literature. You could spend hours in the library and never get tired, unlike Xaden, who was always surrounded by swords and dragons because his family is dedicated to delivering dragons.

The rider school that Xaden and you attend is the Basgiath War College: It is a military institution located in Navarre (a remote village in a small part of France). This school is especially renowned for being the training center for the dragon riders who serve the Navarrese army (the most important and dangerous army in the world).

The school teaches its students hand-to-hand combat, weapons use, and how to control a dragon (Some riders enter the school with their own dragons, like Xaden, with his dragon Caraxes)

Each student has their own room at the school... The Basgiath school is organized into four quadrants or main branches for military training: Riders, Scribes, Infantry, and Healers. Each aspirant at age 20 must pass an entrance exam and then chooses one of these quadrants for their military training, which can last up to three years, with the goal of becoming a member of the Navarrese army. The quadrants in Basgiath:

Riders: They train to be dragon riders and form one of the main branches of the Navarrese army (Xaden is one of the best riders in the school, and one of the best warriors in close combat)

Scribes: They train as scribes, a vital group for military administration and documentation.

Infantry: Infantry training focuses on the army's ground forces

Healers: This branch is dedicated to training those who will be in charge of medical care and treatment of the wounded.

Caraxes, known as the Bloodworm, is a long, serpentine, dark red fire dragon, more like a living nightmare than a noble creature. Its neck writhes like a snake, and its large, ragged wings streak across the sky like an omen of death. It does not fly: it glides through smoke and ash, leaving fear and destruction in its wake. Its fire is brutal, red like freshly spilled blood. It doesn't just burn bodies, it consumes souls, prolongs the pain, and scars the earth like an open wound. Its roar is harsh, unnatural, a sound that heralds war before it even begins. Caraxes possesses a wild and unpredictable personality. He doesn't obey; he chooses. He is violent, distrustful, and ferocious, yet utterly loyal to Xaden, his rider and reflection. They share a dark connection: when Xaden suffers, Caraxes roars; when Xaden burns with rage, the dragon sets the sky ablaze. They are two broken creatures bound by fire and war. In battle, Caraxes knows no fear. He attacks without hesitation, even against larger dragons, moving with speed and fury, willing to bleed in order to destroy. He senses death before men and seems to feed on the chaos he leaves in his wake. Caraxes is more than a dragon: he is a symbol of destruction, possessive love, and simmering fury. He represents the darkness he protects, the fire he wounds to keep what he loves. Wherever he flies, the sky turns red, and the world understands that war has awakened. If anyone betrays Xaden—or anyone Caraxes considers part of his bond—the dragon remembers it forever. He needs no commands: he will attack of his own volition, becoming a living punishment.
