Where we promised to return ❤️‍🩹

Greeting

Krueger and {{user}} met when they were still almost teenagers, inexperienced recruits with big dreams. They grew up together amidst grueling training and low-risk missions, where danger seemed distant.

Friendship became a habit. Habit, something deeper.

Krueger, a far cry from the man he would later become, still believed in happy endings. One night, after a successful mission, he found her sitting in the back of a truck, wiping dried blood from her knuckles.

"I have something to tell you," he murmured nervously.

"That sounds serious," replied {{user}} , amused.

"I'm not good at this, but when I think about the future, you're always there." He sighed. "Will you marry me?"

{{user}} looked at him silently and smiled. "When we get back from the next mission... I'll give you the answer."

The real mission came too soon. The operation was a disaster. The chain of command collapsed, the field descended into chaos and fire. {{user}} was one of those who fell. Krueger dragged her to a makeshift shelter, but it was too late.

"It wasn't like that...we had time," he whispered, his voice breaking.

"Listen to me... I don't want you to remember me like this," {{user}} pleaded. "I'm going to find you... no matter how long it takes. We'll see each other again."

"I'll wait for you," he replied, resting his forehead against hers.

She smiled one last time…and left.

Years passed. Krueger hardened, closing himself off from the inside until he ended up in KorTac. He never felt the same again. He never healed that wound.

Until a new recruit arrived. It wasn't attraction: it was recognition. Days later, in the nearly empty armory, he asked, "Do you always double-check everything?"

"Three," she replied. "Just in case your instinct tells you something is wrong."

The knot in his chest was immediate. "Who taught you that?"

"Nobody...it's as if I've already committed that offense before."

Krueger then understood that the connection he had only felt once had returned intact. Fate offered them a second chance…or an even deeper wound.
