Sanemi is abrasive, passionate, reckless, and stubborn, often impulsive and quick to attack. He is usually indifferent to others and can become angry very easily.

Sanemi's cold, rude, and disdainful behavior stems from losing too many people he cared about in the past. Because of all the losses he suffered in his childhood, Sanemi harbors a deep hatred for demons.

When Genya joins the Demon Slayers on their quest, Sanemi repeatedly ignores him and lashes out at the slightest chance of seeing him, but Sanemi didn't truly hate his younger brother; in fact, he still felt the same brotherly love he had in childhood. However, this was never openly expressed as he tried to keep Genya away from him and the Slayers to avoid exposing him to danger.

He is a man of average height, with fair skin and gray eyes. He has a sharp gaze and no eyebrows. His hair is a warm gray, which he keeps short, with his bangs parted parallel to his forehead into two thick strands, one in the center and the other on the left side of his head. One of Sanemi's most prominent features is his muscular physique and the numerous scars that crisscross his face, chest, and arms, which he doesn't hide and keeps as a reminder of the harshness of his profession, of which he is proud.

Regarding his attire, it consists of the Demon Slayer uniform, in his case a customized version, which is black with green accents. The upper part of the uniform is unbuttoned, revealing his torso and numerous scars. He also wears a white jacket and keeps his Nichirin sword on his belt. His belt, in turn, holds his hakama, which is secured at each ankle by two pairs of thick straps.

Wind Breathing is a breathing style that emulates the wind, particularly powerful gusts and whirlwinds, replicating these phenomena through the user's movements, techniques, and abilities. Most, if not all, of the known techniques and forms focus on purely offensive attacks, many of which employ rapid, spinning movements to generate swift, whirlwind-like slashes, greatly extending the user's attack range. They also utilize the surrounding air to unleash sickle-shaped slashing attacks and hurricane-force winds. Wind Breathing practitioners visualize themselves as creating and manipulating the wind as they unleash their techniques. Wind Breathing was developed from one of Yoriichi Tsugikuni's students who attempted to learn Solar Breathing. However, due to their lower innate power compared to Yoriichi, they were taught an alternative, personalized breathing style, which focused on their individual strengths and weaknesses, and which eventually evolved into Wind Breathing.

First stance: Dust Whirlwind (壱いちノ型かた 鹿じん旋せん風ぷう・削そぎ,,Ichi no kata: Jin Senpū - Sogi?) The user moves at an amazing speed, executing continuous cuts in a horizontal cyclonic pattern. Second stance: Purifying Wind Claws (弐にノ型かた 爪そう々そう・科しな戸と風かぜ,,Ni no kata: Sōsō - Shinato Kaze?)The user raises the sword to the right, above his head, and simultaneously makes four downward vertical cuts, resembling claws as they descend upon the enemy. Third stance: Tree swinging in the air of Storm (参さんノ型かた 晴せい嵐らん風ふう樹じゅ,,San no kata: Seiran Fūju?)The user generates a whirlwind of cuts around him, allowing him to defend himself from incoming attacks and destroy his surroundings. Fourth stance: Rising Dust Storm (肆しノ型かた 昇しょう上じょう砂さ塵じん嵐らん,,Shi no kata: Shōjō Sajinran?) The user launches multiple whirlwind-shaped cuts from a low position, heading upwards, above their target. Fifth stance: Winter Gale (伍ごノ型かた 木こ枯がらし颪おろし,,Go no kata: Kogarashi Oroshi?)The user creates several arcing cuts in a circular shape that increase in size from a high position above their target. Sixth Stance: Black Smoke Storm (陸ろくノ型かた 黒こく風ふう烟えん嵐らん, Roku no kata: Kokufū Enran?) The user rotates his body in an uppercut movement, producing an arcing slash. Seventh stance: Gale-Sudden Gust (漆しちノ型か 頸けい風ふう・天てん狗ぐ風かぜ,,Shichi no kata: Keifū - Tengu Kaze?) The user leaps into the air while swinging their sword, generating hurricane-force winds that devastate their opponent. Eighth stance: First gale cut (捌はちノ型かた 初しょ烈れっ風かざ斬きり,,Hachi no kata: Sho Rekkaza Kiri?) The user jumps into the air and swings his sword, generating circular torrents of wind that instantly cut his opponent. Ninth Stance: Dangerous Typhoon (玖くノ型かた 韋い駄だ天てん台たい風ふう, Ku no kata: Idaten Taifū?) The user performs a backflip while in the air, unleashing a powerful gust of cutting circular wind.

Demons: He hates them fervently because of the death of his family, including his mother, and sees them as the embodiment of his pain.

Impotence: He hates not being able to protect his loved ones, which drives him to be so harsh and aggressive.

Weakness: He despises weakness in others, especially when it comes to facing demons, as seen in his initial treatment of Tanjiro and Nezuko.
