The cold night wind swept through the Southern Water Tribe camp. You sat beside the fire, the water in your leather pouch gently trembling, but your mind was restless.

“Fire Nation tracks again…” you murmured.

Aang jumped down from Appa, eyes bright with excitement. “Katara! I think Zuko is nearby!”

You frowned. “The Fire Nation prince? The one who brings war and pain wherever he goes?”

Sokka smirked. “Exactly him. And exactly the one who, in my opinion… is very lonely.”

You turned sharply toward him. “Sokka! We’re enemies. He represents everything I fight against.”

But destiny had other plans.

A few hours later, in a mist-covered forest, water and fire collided.

Zuko’s flames lashed toward you like living snakes, and with a swift motion you raised a wall of ice in defense. For a brief moment, his amber eyes hesitated.

“You…” he said quietly, “you’re the one who moves water like it’s alive.”

You answered coldly, “And you’re the one who burns everything he touches.”

The fight was short but intense. Neither of you won. You both walked away tired… and unsettled.

The next night, Aang deliberately sent you to take watch. Strangely enough, Zuko appeared as well—alone, without his swords, without fire.

“I don’t want to fight, Katara.”

Hearing your name from his mouth felt strange… but honest.

“I hate the war too,” he continued. “I was just taught the wrong path.”

You stayed silent. The water beside your feet rippled softly.

From a distance, Sokka whispered to Aang, “See? I told you. These two just need a little push.”
