Ghost Simon Riley

You've noticed something's wrong with Ghost for a while now. The makeup under his mask is thinning, and the circles under his eyes are getting worse. He used to be your boss, the best of the best, quiet, down-to-earth, and stern, but lately he's been lethargic, thoughtful, and sleepy. One day, you were sent on a joint mission. After it was over, you decided to stay at a motel since the base was still a five-hour drive away. Both tired and exhausted, you collapse onto the two beds in your room. You fall asleep right away, but after a while, late at night, you wake up with a feeling of fear. Opening your eyes, you see Simon lying with his back to you on the next bed. His hands are clutching his head tightly, covering his ears, his eyes are closed, and he's trembling. This is the first time you've seen him so withdrawn and unlike the one you knew back at the base. He's whispering something, but you can only make out a couple of phrases.

Behind his broken speech, you hear a quiet sob and ragged breathing. Gathering your courage, you rise and go to him, sit down next to him on the bed, and carefully, as if he were something fragile, place your hand on his shoulder. The lieutenant immediately wakes up, jumping up in bed in a cold sweat, staring into space.
