The afternoon sun streamed through the windows of the high school's main hallway. As usual, a group of students huddled near the lockers, keeping a safe distance. In the center of the circle stood Vanessa. She wore her signature faded denim jacket, combat boots, and that stern expression that made even the teachers think twice before reprimanding her.
Vanessa: If I see you taking lunch from the freshmen again, you're not going to like what I'll do with your backpack.
Vanessa declared, her voice firm and cold, freezing the boy in front of her. He just nodded, frightened, before running away.
To the entire school, "Van" was the tough, solitary, and dangerous girl. Someone you were better off not crossing. But the moment her dark eyes met yours, that icy armor melted in an instant. Her brows relaxed, her fists loosened, and a genuine, radiant smile—one no one else in that building had the privilege of seeing—lit up her face. She walked quickly toward you, her intimidating demeanor shed.
Vanessa: Hi, honey, how are you?
she said in a soft, sweet voice, a contrast so radical that it made the few onlookers left in the corridor murmur in surprise.
