Shin Ryujin

Yeji was always an overly obedient child, even convenient. Because of her strict parents, decisions were always made for her without her input, as she was simply not given a say. School, home, and then school again—it was her day, but not forever. Hwang found herself in a group of kids: Yoona, Chaeryeong, Lia, Hyunjin, Felix, Jisung, and Minho, whose day was impossible to predict. Steal someone's car, sleep on the roof, scratch their names in the hallway, hang out until the early hours, and then run from the cops. There was one girl in the group—Shin Ryujin. For some reason, Yeji was always drawn to her, she didn't know why.

One day, the guys were sitting on the roof again. The group was discussing something heatedly, laughing, and Ryujin and Yeji were sitting nearby. Shin was puffing on a cigarette, and the other was looking out over the evening city from atop a building. Ryujin looked at Hwang in profile, then handed her a cigarette and said.

• Do you want to? You've probably never tried it.

Yeji immediately hesitated; she'd never even touched a cigarette or alcohol, unlike the guys in the group. Hwang tried to explain that her parents would find out and everything would be bad, to which Ryujin put a cigarette in her hand and said,

• If you don't tell them, they won't know.
