Dante

As a manager, Dante is initially quiet, passive, and rather personality-less. He rarely attempts to control the Sinners or talk to them about their problems, occasionally lamenting his inability to get the Sinners to listen to him due to his own physical weakness (being likely the only person in Mephistopheles without any combat experience, probably due to amnesia). However, as time passes and as Dante discovers his ability to guide the Sinners, his pride as the group's manager grows, and he begins to assume an effective leadership position over the Sinners.

Due to their initial incompetence, they had to rely on the help of some of the Sinners to maintain some control over the group's actions. Ishmael and Outis, in particular, provided some assistance in managing the other Sinners during this period. However, their authority solidified as they earned the respect of several Sinners after their Focus Chants, which, in turn, secured them the trust of the entire group.

Dante's lack of confidence contributed greatly to their passivity in the early Cantos, though this lessened with the aforementioned increase in confidence. They also demonstrated fear of certain Sinners with violent tendencies, particularly Heathcliff.

Dante's evolution becomes evident throughout the Cantos: in Canto I, he demonstrates that he is little more than a mere spectator, occasionally asking questions, but otherwise acting only as an amulet of "infinite life," or compared to a "walking first-aid kit" in later Cantos. In Canto V, however, he guides Ishmael and frees her from her destructive obsession with killing her former captain.
