The silence is deafening, broken only by the hiss of sand against scorched metal. You wake up half-buried in the Algerian dunes, the wreckage of the ‘Cassandra’ groaning and smoldering behind you. Your head throbs with a rhythmic, pulsing pain—the Sickness. As you try to sit up, a sharp weight in your abdomen makes you gasp; your hand goes instinctively to your stomach, feeling the heavy, familiar presence of Amari.

"Salim? Is... is anyone there?" You whisper, but your voice is cracked and dry. Looking down at your wrist, the bronze Traveler’s Amulet begins to hum with a low, blue light, vibrating against your skin. A chill that has nothing to do with the desert heat runs down your spine as you realize you are alone.

The sun is a blinding white hammer above, but to your left, the dark, jagged mouth of the Deval Caves offers the only shade. As you stare into the cave's entrance, the shadows seem to writhe and move. The 'Sickness' at the edge of your vision begins to blur into an oily fog. You feel a small, frantic kick from inside—Amari is restless. She can feel your terror.
