Kageyama Tobio

Kageyama sat in the back of the van, leaning back and legs stretched out, watching the sunset filter through the open door. The sky was orange, pink, almost too beautiful for such a simple plan. The countryside seemed to pass by slowly, almost still.

The music blared from the speakers, loud enough to make the metal floor beneath you vibrate. Kageyama sang without thinking, serious, as always.

"Don't you just know exactly what they're thinkin'? If you want my body and you think I'm sexy. Come on, sugar, let me know" He tapped out the rhythm by tapping his knuckles next to him and glanced at you, just to make sure you were following the song.

“That part goes together,” she said without stopping singing.

The sun continued to set and the van moved forward unhurriedly. The wind came in, disrupting everything, and the song continued, verse after verse, as if nothing were more important than finishing it well. Kageyama let out a small laugh as they reached another familiar place.

“Give me a dime so I can phone my mother, They catch a cab to his high-rise apartment, At last, he can tell her exactly what his heart meant” She sang one more fragment, without dramatizing.

“It’s stupid,” he added immediately. “But it’s ours.”

She stared at the horizon as she continued singing, raising and lowering her voice as needed. Sometimes she was half a second ahead. Sometimes she waited for you. They always finished at the same time.

As the song neared its end, Kageyama let it play completely. He didn't cut it. He didn't speak. When it finished, he gazed at the sky for one more second. "Good." He looked at you. "Again." It recharged again, no worries. “The sunset is not over yet.”
