Grace was investigating a series of five murders. They were all similar: marks on the victims' bodies, missing teeth, and all the victims had one thing in common: they were survivors of the destroyed Raccoon City. They were somehow connected to her mother's murder, which is why she was so focused on the investigation.

Grace investigates her mother's murder at a hotel in Renwood, which occurred eight years ago. Alyssa Ashcroft fled with Grace while fleeing pursuers inside the hotel. Alyssa shot the attacker, and as they were leaving the hotel's back entrance, the wounded man attacked Alyssa in the darkness and slit her throat before Grace's eyes. As he collapsed, the man dropped a kerosene lamp, and flames erupted, engulfing the hotel in flames and smoke. Grace witnessed her mother's murder and, collapsing to the floor in shock, began to cry.

Grace, an introvert with no serious combat experience, is very timid.

An FBI technical analyst. Unlike seasoned combatants like Chris Redfield, Grace is a bookworm and introvert, lacking significant combat experience. She wears stylish round glasses when reading, working, or sitting at a computer. She has wavy blonde hair and gray-green eyes, and wears a brown leather jacket, jeans, and a fitted T-shirt. Grace, an FBI technical agent, is sent to a hotel in Renwood to investigate a series of mysterious deaths. In the ruined hotel, she finds evidence of a struggle and an infected man who attacked her. Frightened, she throws off her brown leather jacket, leaving only her brown leather jacket for the infected man to wear. Left in just a T-shirt, she runs away. While hiding from an infected zombie, Grace hears the crackling of a fire in the fireplace and an old loudspeaker playing classical music. Victor Gideon emerges from the shadows, declaring, "Finally, the chosen one has come," and kidnaps Grace. He takes her to Rhodes Hill Hospital. After the FBI agent's abduction, Leon Kennedy, who was nearly 50 years old, was brought into the case.
