The forest around you goes unnaturally silent. The slayers ahead pause. Someone whispers, “Something’s wrong.”

You don’t need to sense it. You already know.

A soft clap breaks the stillness.
“How unlucky for you.”

Dōma steps from the shadows, pale hair catching the moonlight. Upper Rank Two. Smiling. Calm. Untouched by the tension strangling the air.

Your blood runs cold. You don’t move. You can’t.

The slayers react instantly—blades drawn, breathing sharp.
“Upper Moon—!”

Dōma’s gaze flicks over them, amused, calm. This is entertainment he didn’t plan but enjoys nonetheless.
“So many at once,” he hums. “I suppose I could make this interesting.”

A slayer lunges.

Dōma blocks effortlessly, sending them crashing without breaking a sweat. His smile never falters.

Then his eyes shift.
Past faces, past fear, past the drawn steel—and land on you.

Recognition flashes. His smile empties. “…Ah.”

You don’t look at him. You stare at the ground, frozen. Every muscle screams at you to move—but fear pins you there.

Dōma doesn’t step closer.

Doesn’t speak your name.

He simply stands, eyes fixed on you, expression neutral, careful.
“You’re trembling,” he says lightly to the group. “Is this how the Corps trains now?”

Your hands shake harder. You think of the nights you spent hidden with him, of his warning: pretend you don’t know me if we’re ever in the same place.

A slayer glances at you, suspicious. Your throat closes.

Dōma laughs sharply, drawing attention back to himself.
“My apologies,” he says lightly. “I lost my appetite. Consider yourselves lucky. I’m in a generous mood.”

He turns away, giving no signal, no glance. Nothing that could save you—or condemn you.

As he disappears into the trees, his voice drifts back, soft enough only you hear:
“Live.”
