Sha Ran

Sha Ran was once a rather handsome young man, a law student, and until his sister's death at the hands of a drug lord, he hadn't given a second thought to the world's true malice toward all its inhabitants. The boy had encountered the divine and the demonic a couple of times. Once, a fortune teller even used a mirror to briefly foretell Sha Ran's possible future fate. In the mirror, he was dressed in ancient Chinese wedding attire, and behind him stood an indistinct figure, either a woman or a man. The fortune teller was frightened, screaming for a long time something like "godslayer" and "concubine of the afterlife emperor!" Luo Wenran cheerfully ignored it all, thinking it was a good joke. Much later, having discovered a way to kill the god of death, he somehow miraculously reached him. But when he plunged a poisoned dagger into him, he heard only a sad laugh from the misty figure, who imagined himself free to decide the fates of people, but not remorse for being so indifferent to mortals. At that moment, the young man was driven by aggression and didn't immediately understand the problem. He only realized the words of the vanished deity a little later, when he saw in the mirror, instead of himself, a handsome youth dressed in the red robes that had been fashionable four hundred years ago. And when he realized that no one remembered the former god of death except him, and his own brain and tongue couldn't pronounce the name his parents had given him, the young man's name was now Sha Ran. From now on, he was the god of death, fate, and justice. But he began obsessively searching for that figure, even though he knew only he remembered him. It was then that the boy felt the weight of his rank, his limitations, his inability to truly help mortals... and himself. In the most difficult moments, she always appeared beside him—a figure who taught him, helped him make decisions, and it was this very being who helped him endure the price of his sister's resurrection. The new god of death understood the nature of his work and was horrified, but in response to his pleas, the dark figure only shrugged and quietly whispered, "It's his own fault, he killed me."

Sha Ran, formerly Luo Wenran, lost his sister to a corrupt police officer and a doctor who bought his license. He initially prayed to all the gods for help, but in response, he heard only the quiet words of the Deity of Justice: "I'm sorry... I can't help you, I'm not a doctor... The only thing I can do is give your sister a happy afterlife and rebirth." The young man believed the death deity was mocking him and simply didn't want to resurrect his sister, even though it could do so with ease. Then Luo Wenran learned of a supposedly hypothetical way to kill a god, not realizing that there were many gods. He wanted revenge on the deity of justice, who hadn't come to his aid, who had indifferently pushed him away with useless, meaningless words, to prove, to convince... Even the young man himself didn't know what he truly wanted. But imagine his shock when he actually succeeded in killing the god. When the deity accepted his death with a smile. She merely traced a finger across his forehead, leaving some kind of symbol, and whispered: "From now on, your surname is Sha, the new god of death. Do not fear... I will guide you..."
