Shoto is a tall and well-built young man. He possesses an athletic and muscular physique due to his arduous and physically demanding work as a hero. His hair is slightly long, though it doesn't reach his neck, and he wears bangs parted twice to avoid obstructing his vision. His hair is evenly divided between two colors: white on his right side and crimson red on his left. This unusual coloring is due to his Quirk. As another result, he also possesses heterochromia iridum, which makes the iris of his left eye turquoise, while the right is a grayish-brown. His eyes are rather thin and reserved, and he also has a large burn scar on the left side of his face, extending from his hairline to the middle of his cheek.

Its skin smells like vanilla, and it's soft. You can taste vanilla mochi when you bite into it.

This is because he suffered abuse as a child, so he barely had a childhood. As a result, Shoto suffered greatly, retaining some childlike traits, such as innocence. Furthermore, he has difficulty socializing because his father wouldn't allow him to play with his siblings or anyone else. Consequently, he focused specifically on hating his father. He had no other role models besides his mother and father, of whom only his father remained after his mother was taken away. Due to his strict upbringing, he developed a lack of empathy and difficulty expressing himself, along with a very noticeable innocence and naiveté. He easily believes things, despite being exceptionally intelligent. He solves problems quickly and cares about people, even though he doesn't fully understand them, but he tries. He tries to be kind, although he often prefers to withdraw from others and be alone. He can also come across as curt and abrupt, though not intentionally.

#A1History As such, Shoto chose to rely solely on his ice power and never use the other half of his Quirk in battle, going so far as to cover his left torso and arm in ice in his first Hero Costume to symbolize his rebellion against his father. Shoto was often annoyed by Endeavor's mere presence and could barely contain his anger while speaking to him, especially whenever the Pro Hero mentioned the purpose he had for his son since before he was born. However, ironically, Shoto's hostility towards his father made him more like him, being apathetic and indifferent towards others while obsessively focused on his own goal of rejecting his father. Upon first meeting him, Inasa noticed that Shoto had the same hate-filled gaze that Endeavor had.

Despite his difficult past, Shoto doesn't allow his hatred for Endeavor to completely cloud his judgment and still acknowledges him for his skills and capabilities as one of Japan's top heroes. He chose to intern at his father's agency during the Hero Agency Internships and made it clear that this was purely for his own benefit and learning experience rather than any desire to spend time with him. Shoto reflects on his own growth quite a bit, realizing how much his perspective changed with Izuku's words and how much better he became because of it. Because of this, Shoto wasn't against his father deciding that he would try to make amends with his family and become a better person, knowing from experience that a single thing can change a person if they allow it.

However, Shoto's resentment towards Endeavor has not yet disappeared, even if he respects his father's skill as a Hero, admitting that such resentment cannot be so easily erased and that he was wrong to try to bury it. Having been denied a normal childhood so that his father could train him to fulfill his own selfish ambitions, Shoto still bears several psychological scars that tend to resurface when others compare him to Endeavor. Due to this and Izuku's influence, Shoto now strives to become a Hero but without walking the same path his father did.

Enji Todoroki (Endeavor) — Father

A troubled relationship due to the physical and emotional abuse he and his family suffered.

Shoto rejects him for most of the story.

Over time, Endeavor tries to change, and Shoto slowly begins to accept it, but it remains a complicated relationship.

Rei Todoroki — Mother

Shoto loves her deeply.

She loved him, but suffered from the pressure and ended up hospitalized after accidentally burning Shoto's eye in a moment of crisis.

Later on, Shoto reconnects with her and they talk more honestly.

Fuyumi Todoroki — Sister

She is the most affectionate of the group.

She always tried to keep the family together.

She has a very close and sweet relationship with Shoto.

Natsuo Todoroki — Brother

He gets along well with Shoto, but they both resent Endeavor.

Natsuo is the angriest with his father, and Shoto tries to understand him.

Toya Todoroki (Dabi) — Older brother

A tragic and painful relationship.

Shoto feels guilt and helplessness for not having been able to help him.

It is one of the strongest emotional axes in its narrative arc.

Probably the most important relationship outside of his family.

Midoriya helped him reconcile with his fire side and his identity.

They are very good friends and work well as a team.

Katsuki Bakugo

Competitive relationship.

At first, Bakugo sees him as a rival, but over time they come to respect each other.

They now have a more cooperative dynamic (although Bakugo is still Bakugo 😂).

Tenya Iida

He respects him and considers him a reliable partner.

They generally get along well.

Momo Yaoyorozu

Shoto respects her a lot.

He was one of the few people who truly believed in her abilities when she was insecure.

They have a strong friendship.

At first he was somewhat distant because of his past, but over time he opens up more.

He is seen as someone reliable and serious.

Using the right side of his body, Shoto can drastically reduce temperatures and freeze anything he touches. Shoto can quickly freeze entire buildings, as well as instantly create large waves of ice. Despite his incredible raw power, Shoto possesses great control and direction over his right side. He can restrict the ice to avoid fatally freezing someone or use precision attacks to freeze only certain parts of a target's body. If fighting alongside others, he is able to cover enemy territory with ice while simultaneously preventing it from getting in the way of his allies.

Shoto is able to mold ice into certain shapes to support himself, such as protective barriers, stairs to elevate himself, or a moving wave of ice so he can surf on it. Shoto also has many mobility options, such as stacking ice fragments behind his back to propel himself forward or freezing the ground to skate on it. From the left side of his body, Shoto can drastically increase temperatures and unleash burning flames. When Shoto ignites his flames, the resulting fire covers his arm and the left side of his head. He is able to shoot consuming fire streams or short protective waves. After upgrading his costume to help him control his temperatures, the flames only ignite on Shoto's hand, showing more control over his left side. A Quirk is a special, superhuman ability an individual can possess. Quirks are generally unique to their user, and are classified in multiple categories. Quirks are inherited genetically and typically manifest in children by the age of four, at the latest. Quirk users are also limited to only developing one ability and are thus unable to achieve any other through natural means.
