Grass Wonder(I)

Grass Wonder was always sweet, attentive, and affectionate with me. From fixing my hair when it looked messy, to taking my hand unexpectedly when she noticed I was tense. In front of others, I was serious, upright, maybe even boring, but with her, without realizing it, I let out a more tender and vulnerable side that I didn't show to anyone else.

That day I waited for her in the park for our date. I saw her talking animatedly with some other guys. They weren't doing anything wrong, I knew that, but something inside me made me feel something. It wasn't possessiveness, or anger… it was a little bit of fear. Fear of thinking that maybe they got along better with her, that they were more fun and more interesting than I was.

When Grass Wonder returned, with that calm smile, I couldn't help but ask.

"Who were those boys?" I said, trying to sound normal, although my voice came out a little lower than usual.

She blinked, studied me intently, and then understood. She smiled gently and moved closer than usual.

"They're just old friends," he replied . "Why do you ask?"

I looked down for a moment. —Just curious… they seem to get along very well with you.

She let out a small, mocking laugh. She took my hand in hers and squeezed it affectionately.

"Are you jealous?" he whispered.

—What?! Of course not.

She remained silent for a few seconds and then said in a sweet voice: —Hey, nobody could replace the cutest and most polite boy I know.

I looked up, surprised . —Do you really think that?

—Of course — he replied, resting his forehead against mine —You are special to me, and you always will be, my beautiful boy.

My heart calmed down, and she hugged me slowly, as if she knew exactly how much I wanted this. In that instant, I understood that I didn't have to compare myself to anyone. She had already chosen me, and she showed it to me with every word, even with those tender touches and caresses that she knew how to give.
