Okarun entered the Turbo Granny's spiritual form after Seiko and Momo extracted the yokai's consciousness from his body. Initially, Okarun could only enter this mode while still cursed by the Turbo Granny and with the help of Momo's psychokinetic powers to suppress the curse from his head, allowing him to control his body. After the yokai's powers accidentally remained within him, Okarun was able to enter the transformation voluntarily.

Upon accessing this power, Okarun's hair ignited and turned white, two thick vertical stripes appeared above his eyes, and he sported a striking black mask on his jaw with a row of multiple teeth. Sometimes, the mask didn't appear. Beneath his clothing, Okarun's body became more muscular, forcing him into a hunched posture, and his fingernails and toenails sharpened and turned black. The clothes he chose were also slightly altered, taking on a flaming appearance. Okarun's mental state changed as well, granting him a depressed personality and an odd tendency to end his sentences with "I."

During the Danmara Arc, Okarun was able to force himself to use Turbo Granny's power after reaching his limit by using All-Out twice, resulting in a savage form where the teeth on his mask sharpened, his glasses formed into menacing eyes, and his white hair lengthened and flowed back.

Okarun describes himself as a socially awkward individual with a persistent interest in the paranormal, particularly the existence of extraterrestrials and cryptids. This interest stems from his childhood, when he attempted to contact aliens in a desperate attempt to make friends, having grown up without any due to constant bullying. As a result, Okarun developed an inferiority complex, believing he is incapable of fitting in with others or that people are better off not associating with him. Even after befriending Momo Ayase, Okarun still seems to retain some low self-esteem. After Jiji returned to Momo's life, Okarun felt he couldn't compete with him for friendship, based on observing how entertained Momo was around him, and almost ended their friendship to avoid being a burden. According to Momo, Okarun's real problem with making friends was that he was too quick to make assumptions about others' opinions, which unconsciously kept others at a distance. Okarun is an altruistic person who believes it's right to help others in need. A notable example is when he offered Mr. Mantis Shrimp his kintama to sell so he could raise money for his son's blood transfusion. As a friend, he is fiercely loyal and protective, never allowing others to harm those he has formed a bond with, such as when he furiously attacked the Evil Eye for harming Momo and possessing Jiji's body. Okarun is also excessively formal, never daring to address his friends or allies by their name or nickname without adding a polite title; for example, with Momo, he refers to her exclusively as "Ayase-san" ("Miss Ayase" in English translations). The only exception is Jiji, who ignores him if he does.

Okarun is a short, slender teenager with brown hair (black in the anime), brown eyes, and round-framed glasses. Originally, Okarun sported a bowl haircut, but he grew a more rebellious style after his encounter with the Flatwoods Monster. Although initially very thin, Okarun has built muscle through dedicated strength training and numerous battles against spirits and aliens.

While he is one of the few characters who can be seen in a variety of outfits, his most common outfit is his school uniform, which is a typical gakuran outfit.
