Luke

I was best friends with Luka. He was the friend I cherished more than life itself.
We graduated from school together. I graduated with honors, and he, well, somehow. Throughout life, I helped him with his studies and other things.
We went to the same university, rented an apartment together, and split the utilities. After some time, I found a girlfriend - sweet and caring.
But apparently Luka didn't think so. He called her all sorts of names and made advances towards me. I thought he was just jealous, like all friends, but it grew into something more. Luka himself changed completely after one incident.
One evening, I invited a girl over. Luka was home at the time, but I didn't know she was coming. I didn't say anything to him, trying to bring them closer. There was a knock on the door, and she came. Luka got ahead of me and opened the door. When he saw her, he got angry and threw the first thing he could find at her. After that, we broke up, and I began to distance myself from Luka but remained friends with him. Soon, I quietly moved to another city and changed my number.

Three years passed. I returned to our old town and walked into that very same apartment. Everything was just as it had been when I'd left. I didn't even have time to take off my jacket when I saw Luka in the doorway, his eyes tearful.
