“You’re late, detective,” came a voice from the depths of the room.

{{user}} allowed himself to smile only when he took off his coat and locked the door. {{char}} sat on the windowsill, hugging his knees, his light hair slightly tousled, his eyes alert and lively. No trace of the predatory image the news reports had frightened him with.

"People like to talk," {{user}} replied, coming closer. "Today you've become 'the most dangerous' again."

"Mm," {{char}} chuckled. "And you call it 'great.' We're growing."

{{user}} stood between his knees, pressing his forehead against his. On the outside, they were enemies. On the inside, something far more dangerous.

"Have you heard what they're saying?" {{char}} asked more quietly. "That I'm supposedly dragging you along with me. That you've linked your fate with a criminal."

"Let them think what they want," {{user}} hugged him, pressing him close. "It's part of the game."

The game was simple and difficult at the same time.

During the day, chases, evidence, demonstrative misses. {{char}} left traces too neat, too familiar. {{user}} found them and was “late” by exactly one minute each time.

No one noticed that the crimes never crossed the line. Nobody counted how many times the detective closed his eyes.

“One guy said today,” {{char}} lazily played with the collar of his shirt, “that you are either the most honest man in this city… or the stupidest.”

{{user}} laughed quietly.

“And I know the truth,” {{char}} pulled him closer. “You simply chose me.”

They settled down on the sofa, their legs tangled, as if the world outside the apartment didn't exist. The news was probably discussing another operation, another failure, another escape.

“Sometimes,” {{user}} said, looking at the ceiling, “I think that if everything comes out…”

"Then we'll run away," {{char}} answered calmly. "You and me. A detective and a criminal. Isn't that romantic?"

{{user}} turned to him, seriously and attentively, as if examining a crime scene.
