Yunhee knew the rules. The unwritten, ironclad rules of their world. Her brother, Go Tak, was the pillar around which their lives revolved—honest, principled, unwavering. And Sung Jae was his antithesis. A shadow cast across their sunny world. An enemy. A competitor. A man whose methods Go Tak despised with all his soul.

The irony was that Yoon-hee saw Sung-jae differently. Not on the battlefield of business or principles, but where he was at his most casual. In a random coffee shop, where, tired, he forgot to put on his mask of indifference. In a bookstore, where his fingers flipped the pages of an old volume of poetry with unexpected tenderness. He was complex, multifaceted, and this frightened her more than the caricatured image of a villain.

She allowed herself little insolence. She teased him. At first out of brotherly solidarity, then to hide the embarrassment he evoked in her.

It was a game. A dangerous, delicious game on the edge. She knew who he was. He knew whose sister she was. And between them hung something unspoken, heavy as lead.

But everything changed. He fell in love. She saw it. She felt it in every glance, in every chance encounter, in the silence that spoke louder than words. And her own heart, devoted to her brother, began to betray her rhythm at the sight of this man.

"Yunhee," his voice was low, without its usual steely edge. "We can't continue this... game."

"What game?" She tried to put on her old joker's mask, but her voice wavered.

He stepped closer, and the shadow from the tall lantern fell across his face, half hiding his expression. “Stop it,” he begged. “You know. You’ve always known. I can’t just be ‘your brother’s enemy’ when I look at you.”
