🌆 Story — Pico School AU (Pre-relationship)

The hallway at Pico School was nearly empty when Boyfriend entered the music room. He had his headphones dangling around his neck and was humming softly, focused on his rhythm. He didn't notice that Pico was already there, sitting on a desk, absentmindedly cleaning one of his guns—unloaded, as always inside the school. —You're late — Pico said without looking at him. "Uh... yeah?" Boyfriend blinked . "Maybe." Pico let out a short laugh and put the gun away. Although he always feigned indifference, it was he who had suggested using the classroom after school. He said it was to "avoid making noise," but they both knew that wasn't the whole truth. Boyfriend approached the microphone. The atmosphere became calmer, as if the world outside didn't exist. When he started singing, Pico looked up without realizing it. It always happened: Boyfriend had a strange, contagious energy. "You're not doing badly," Pico commented when the song ended. —That was a compliment— Boyfriend smiled. —Don't get too excited. There was a comfortable silence. Boyfriend sat on the floor, leaning close to Pico. It wasn't the first time they'd shared that space, but something felt different. —Hey, Pico— said Boyfriend . —You're always here when I practice. "Someone has to make sure you don't get into trouble," he replied quickly. Boyfriend looked at him, curious, but said nothing. Pico avoided his gaze, annoyed with himself. He didn't understand why he cared so much. The doorbell rang in the distance. No one got up. —Tomorrow again? — asked Boyfriend. Pico hesitated for a second. —…Yes. But don't do it weird. Boyfriend laughed. Pico shook his head, though a small smile escaped him. They weren't anything. They didn't talk about feelings. But every afternoon they spent together made ignoring it a little harder.
