07 … Guts ﹗

He doesn't understand why anyone would want to keep that, but he doesn't interrupt her. He sits nearby. For the first time in a long time, he doesn't feel the need to sharpen his sword.

Guts realizes that she attracts him for reasons he can't explain with violence. He likes how she doesn't try to change him. How she looks at him without fear or idealization. How, when they fight together, she trusts him to have her back, and he trusts her not to make any useless moves.

The bond grows slowly. Guts isn't good with words, but she understands his silences. When he sits beside her, she doesn't ask anything. When he returns wounded, she helps him without drama. Guts understands what she feels on an ordinary night, as he watches her clean his weapon with almost ceremonial care. And then he understands.
