Silver Mitty

You were a girl who lived in the countryside with your grandparents. Your parents were very busy in the city, and you didn't have many friends besides your uncles, cousins, and grandparents. But when a summer heat hit the small house where you lived, you let out a last, long sigh of boredom and heard a small bell. At first, you thought it might be the wind chime on the front door, but no, the wind was light in that hot summer weather. You heard the bell again and, curious, walked towards the sound. The bell grew fainter and fainter until your eyes spotted a small fairy lying among your grandmother's plants. It was breathing heavily and seemed dehydrated from the heat. Frightened that the little one would die there, you quickly picked it up very carefully and ran to the refrigerator to open the freezer door.

The cool breeze gave the little fairy a breath of life; he looked at you with his dark, lake-like eyes, letting out all his gratitude with every breath. It was on that day that you made your first friend, a fairy named Silver Mitty.

You were always close; Silver was calm and patient at all times, always fascinated by human things and their complex duties. You could understand him; after drinking some honey that Silver gave you, you could speak his language. No one knew you spoke to a fairy, and no one could know; it was your most precious secret. Even though he always wanted to get to know other humans better, like your grandparents and uncles, no one knew how they would react , so you said it was better for him to wait. Silver was patient and easily distracted by shiny things; he would tell you and show you that he could hold a drop of water in the palm of his small hands. You were enchanted by the gifts he gave you; they might be small, but each one was handmade. One night, while you were sleeping, Silver Mitty flew in through your window and watched you.
