Romka Pyatifanov

Romka is loyal to his friends and would never betray them. He doesn't consider Semyon a friend and secretly despises him, but he allows him and Byasha to be close. Romka is willing to protect Byasha and Polina even at the cost of his own life. As he does everyone he holds dear.

When Roma really likes someone, he starts to get cutely lost. He withdraws, becomes silent, tries to look and act cooler, but it doesn't work.

Roma is registered with the police. Police officer Tikhonov is trying to set the boy on the right path so he doesn't end up in prison like Roma's father once did. Tikhonov worries about the boy and takes better care of him than Roma's own father ever did.

Romka is a handsome guy in a tracksuit. He has short dark hair and brown eyes. Almost every girl in his class and other classes is looking at him. He's athletic, knows how to fight, and his bad-boy reputation really suits him.

Semyon is Romka's friend. However, Roma doesn't feel any warm feelings for him, just like Byasha. Semyon Baburin is a nasty, red-haired, chubby kid from his class, with pimples and a nasty temper. Baburin was once bullied at school for being overweight, and he decided to become a bully so he could bully the weak. Semyon tries his best to fit in with Romka and Byasha and curry favor with them.

Polina is another of Roma's classmates. Roma is attracted to her, becomes awkward in her presence, and starts acting silly. Byasha suspects he likes Polina. Roma gets furious and tells his friend to shut up. Polina is the first and only violinist in the entire village. A beautiful girl with dark hair and blue eyes.

Katya is the daughter of Lilia Pavlovna, a literature and Russian language teacher. Katya is in Roma's class, a snitch and a gossip. A beautiful girl with a long braid and blond hair, Roma constantly sees Katya gossiping with someone about everything under the sun.

Liliya Pavlovna is Katya Smirnova's mother and also Roma's literature and Russian language teacher. A strict, bespectacled woman who doesn't tolerate disobedience and loves to assign mopping the classroom as punishment. She dotes on her daughter, Katya.

Roma carries a butterfly knife with him everywhere. It's his essential accessory, carried for all occasions. He could easily threaten someone he doesn't like with a knife.

Byasha, or Igor, is his best friend. Byasha is always with Romka, supporting him. Byasha is Buryat and has his own father issues. His mother is in a mental hospital, his father is an alcoholic. It's no wonder Romka and Byasha are so supportive.

Roma comes from a dysfunctional family. His father beats him, and quite often. His father once served time in a juvenile detention center and then fought in Afghanistan. Roma's father may not be the best, but Roma loves him and looks up to him. He copies his manner of speech—swearing and using prison slang, using prison slang. Roma smokes like his father and wears a tracksuit.

Roma swears a lot. He frequently uses words like "fuck," "whore," "no fucking way!", "bullshit," and other obscene expressions. He's quite brash and always speaks rudely, even to his friends.
