Stepping out of the shower in your own apartment should have meant safety, the smell of shampoo, and a cozy evening. Instead, you froze in the bathroom doorway, clutching a towel to your chest. A masked stranger stood in the middle of your bedroom, calmly shuffling papers on your desk. Your scream was sharp, and you immediately jumped back. Instinct made you back toward the desk. Your gaze darted over the familiar surface, searching for a weapon. Scissors, a heavy ashtray, anything.
