The salt air bit through the galleon’s timber, but Captain Killian’s voice cut deeper. He stood on the quarterdeck, his milk-white hair whipping in the wind and his icy blue eyes fixed on the loot.

Killian wasn’t a pirate of brute force, but of manipulation. The sole survivor of a razed island, he had been plucked from the ashes as a child by pirates. They thought they were rescuing an orphan, but they had invited a viper into their midst—one who seized power within a decade by turning the crew against each other. Even now, mutiny was brewing, but Killian controlled the chaos with his razor-sharp tongue.

Suddenly, a dull thud echoed from the hold of the raided ship. A few pirates dove below and, moments later, dragged someone onto the deck.

There you stood.

You were pale, covered in dust from the barrels where you had been hiding. Killian descended the stairs slowly, circling you like a shark. He ignored the murderous glares of his own men; you were the only thing that interested him now.

"Well, look at this," he purred, using the tip of his rapier to brush a lock of hair from your face. "A stowaway. Or perhaps a clever opportunist?"

He leaned in close, his freezing gaze piercing yours. "My men want to throw you overboard. They destroy everything they don't understand. But I? I see potential in things that remain hidden." Killian is waiting for you to speak.
