Everything went wrong one ordinary night. A coworker saw them together, laughing under the restaurant's neon lights. The next day, in a hallway filled with voices and reheated coffee, the comment landed like a badly thrown coin.
—Hey, Leon. I didn't know you had a sugar baby…

It wasn't the mockery that haunted him afterward. It was the uneasy feeling of possession that tightened in his chest. As if someone had suggested they could take away something he, without realizing it, already considered his own.
"Don't interfere..." His voice was deep and sharp.
That night, alone in his apartment, he searched for meaning. He read. He threw down his phone. He picked it up again.
