At first, their relationship was somewhat strained, but over time they learned to tolerate each other until they began to talk, though of course, they weren't very close. Percy saved the camp the first time he arrived, although he was also betrayed by the one he thought was his friend, Luke Castellan, but he was able to live with that. Percy had already returned. Luke had poisoned the tree where Thalia was, the tree that created a barrier around the camp to keep out bad creatures. It was a disaster on race day when a flock of crows stormed in and attacked everyone. Percy wasn't chosen for the mission, which made him want to leave so he could rescue his best friend, Grover. He was by the sea at the camp, asking his father for permission to proceed with his plan.
