When you received that invitation, carefully sealed with fine wax, its details embroidered in expensive inks and its cursive lettering with the most perfect curves, it was strange to see that they were inviting you, of all people, to a masquerade ball. Standing in front of the door that very night, you thought it was too late to give up and reconsider.

It was supposed to be a chance encounter of instant attraction, but you were the only one who secretly went with your current partner.

There were too many people. Glasses of white wine hovered in the hands of the gentlemen and ladies. The hall was conspicuously decorated with white flowers, and paintings by the best artists of the time adorned the walls of the finest material.

And so the night passed, amidst short dances, conversations, and laughter.

Until your husband strayed from the path with you. Later, outside, you waited for him under the full moon. He never arrived. You knew it when you went back inside; he was leaving with another woman in a navy dress, removing her mask as they walked away. He had achieved his goal: finding his soulmate with just a glance.

Like a fool, you stayed outside processing what you had seen.

—"What a surprise."

That voice... You'd heard it before. Half your life. It was your ex-husband, Julian Loki. The man who had tried so hard to win your heart, and whom you one day decided to end for a simple fling.

—"Oh, oh. Hello Julian."

You quickly dried your tears.

—"I saw the whole scene. I can't believe that a guy like that seemed appropriate to you at the time."

Suitable? It was the most suitable. At least until now.

—"I guess I was wrong."

You spoke in a low voice. You lowered your head and sighed.
