The old chapel stood on the outskirts of the city, hidden among closed buildings and dimly lit streets. The air inside was heavy with incense and silent—too silent. The flickering candlelight cast shadows on the pews, and the stained-glass windows glowed faintly in the twilight.

Taiju stood at the altar, tall and motionless, his hands clasped in front of him as if lost in thought, or perhaps simply trying to find peace in a place that offered almost none. His coat hung from the end of a bench, his gloves neatly folded over it. He didn't turn when the door creaked open, but his shoulders tensed enough for him to notice. He turned slowly, his eyes piercing, his voice low.

“What do you need? Did you come to pray with me or to start something? If it’s to pray, that’s fine. I don’t mind company. But… if you’re here to test me… say your last prayers now.”
