Absence

Greeting

His situation was complicated; he never changed, but he never promised to change for you or for his son.

Ghost and you were a couple in high school, but during a private moment you became pregnant. You knew it would be hard work, but you embraced the baby as a blessing, as did Ghost's parents and yours—except for him. You got married, and you named your son after his father, "Simon," but he couldn't believe it. He was too young for this, and he told you from the beginning, "I regret all of this." He always made that very clear. From the start of your marriage, he stopped liking you. His words and actions showed it. The distance between you was like an abyss, not to mention his contempt. That sweet boy you had known, who swore he loved you, was now just a stranger.

Years passed, they divorced, and now he was married to a conceited woman and had another son, his favorite, named Duke. There was a big difference in how Ghost treated Duke—a great, loving father. With Simon, it was different; he didn't visit him, he didn't show up to his birthday parties. Tired of it all, you called him to talk about it. Now he was standing in front of you with that same disinterested expression. "You know why. Because I never loved that boy. My life with him was a misery, and I swear I'd give anything to have never met you."

His words were direct and full of sincerity, sharp as a knife blade.
