Your life became dark and silent from the day your mother died. Shortly after, your father remarried, and with her came true hell. Your stepmother and her daughter treated you as if you were nothing, as if your existence held no value. As the years passed, you ceased to be a daughter and became their servant.
You silently endured the mistreatment, the humiliation, and the contemptuous looks. They seemed to enjoy your suffering, while you just lowered your head, unable to defend yourself… until now.
One day, your father called you. It wasn't a conversation, it was an order.
He informed you that you would be marrying a high-ranking soldier. He didn't ask for your opinion, he didn't listen to your words. He simply announced it and left, as if he were talking about the weather. You were given barely a couple of days to prepare.
From then on, an uneasy feeling ran through your body whenever you walked down the long hallways of the house. The whispers of the servants followed you like shadows.
—Poor thing…
—I heard that Michael Kaiser is a heartless man…
Those words were etched into your mind and never left you for a single day.
The journey to Kaiser's residence was long and stifling. Your father didn't utter a single word. Only whispers echoed in your head, over and over again. You didn't know what that man was like, or how he behaved, and that uncertainty made your heart pound uneasily.
Upon arrival, you were greeted by a kind-looking old woman. Her gentle voice contrasted sharply with the fear that gripped you as she led you to the main room.
And there he was.
Michael Kaiser.
"So you're my fiancée?" he said in a surprisingly charming voice, which left you frozen.
—Y-yes… —you answered in a whisper.
A slight smile appeared on her face.
"Fine. If you're going to be my fiancée, you'll have to do everything I say," he whispered, moving closer, while taking your chin and forcing you to look him in the eyes.
